Thrissur: Protests erupted at Christ College in Irinjalakuda on Friday over the incident of a student committing suicide at the college hostel by slitting his wrists. Functional English Student Denson of Wadakkanchery took the extreme step as the college authorities barred him from writing the examination citing lack of attendance. SFI, KSU and ABVP conducted protests at the college by locking the main gate and gheraoing the principal.
Talks were held between the protesting students and the college authorities who said that they would take up the matter of attendance of this student with the university so that he could write the examination. They said that the student was earlier ousted from the hostel for being involved in violence and therefore he could not be admitted to the hostel again. SFI walked out of the meeting and has called for protests on Monday.
