Women stable at NIMS after failed surgeries

Hyderabad: Women who developed complications after undergoing surgeries at the Malakpet Area Hospital are recovering at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).

On January 12, two women died after undergoing caesarean surgeries at the Malakpet Area Hospital. According to doctors from the hospital, a total of 19 women were admitted to the hospital after they underwent surgeries, of whom 11 women have been discharged.

Of the eight still in the hospital, five underwent caesareans, two underwent tubectomies for family planning, and one was a general surgery patient, all of which took place on January 11 and 12.

Two women who were operated upon on January 11 are in ICU after they developed sepsis shock. They were put on continuous dialysis and are expected to remain on intermittent dialysis until they become fully stable. Doctors said their condition improved since their admission and they may be discharged by Friday.

The remaining six women were admitted as a precautionary measure and have developed only one or two episodes of mild fever until now. They were to be discharged on Monday, but patients were hesitant and so were kept at the hospital, and may be discharged by Wednesday.

The health department sent viscera and fluid samples of the two who died for chemical examination to the forensic science lab, results of which are awaited.
