HANAMKONDA: District administration and authorities of Kakatiya Medical College (KIMC) are allowing house surgeons of the institution to remain in their existing hostel allotted to them.
Deccan Chronicle had reported protests by these house surgeons after they were asked to vacate their hostel, which is being earmarked for establishing a Coronavirus Isolation Centre. Authorities had even cut power and water supply to the hostel, while the house surgeons did not want to be relocated as they were at the fag end of their internship. They even suggested alternate buildings where the isolation centre could be located.
As authorities did not yield, house surgeons threatened to boycott their duties, which would have severely affected medicare at the MGM Hospital. Following this, government chief whip D. Vinay Bhaskar rushed to the KMC in the late hours of Monday. He spoke to officials concerned as well as civic authorities, which led to power and water supply to the hostel getting restored.
Vinay Bhaskar assured house surgeons that they could continue in their existing hostel rooms. Following this, the interns withdrew their protests.
On Tuesday morning, the government whip spoke to officials, asking them to establish the isolation block in an alternate building nearby, which is vacant. Officials accepted the proposal and let the house surgeons continue in their existing building.
