Kerala: Indefinite bus strike from February 2

The private bus operators also sought hike in fares where concession was given for students.

KOZHIKODE: Private bus operators in the state will start an indefinite strike from February 2 in protest against the delay in implementing the nationalised route policy approved by the Supreme Court. A token strike will be held on January 24, PBOA district secretary Suresh Babu, said. They also demanded hike in ticket rates. The private bus operators also sought hike in fares where concession was given for students.

The members of the association, held a protest in front of the Collectorate on Tuesday. “The directive was issued by the Supreme Court way back in 2002 regarding the 31 nationalised routes. A draft was prepared on February 8, 2016 and a Government Order was expected to come out on February 7,” said PBOA Kozhikode district president Suresh Babu M.K. They also demanded that one fourth of the fair should be charged from the students on concession tickets.
