Woman mowed down on way to work in Banjara Hills
Hyderabad: A 35-year-old woman died after being run over by an unidentified vehicle near an eye hospital in Banjara Hills around 6.30 am on Sunday.
The woman, J. Chandrakala, worked as a security at a star hotel in the area and was on her way to work when the incident took place, the police said. She is survived by two kids aged below 15 years, who have been orphaned, as her husband died a few years ago.
“Chandrika was crossing the road when an unidentified vehicle going towards Punjagutta hit her, killing her on the spot. A case has been registered against the vehicle and a hunt is on to trace the vehicle and nab the driver,” said Banjara Hills sub-inspector N. Preethi Reddy.
Chandrakala, a resident of Vanasthalipuram, had been working at the hotel for the past few years on the morning shift. On Sunday too, she got down at the bus stop as usual and was crossing the road when she was hit.
An eyewitness to the incident said he heard a loud noise and by the time he reached the spot, she was lying in a pool of blood, with the vehicle having sped away.
The police said they are reviewing footage from CCTV cameras in the vicinity to identify the car. Also, her kids were handed over to her younger sister, Bhagya, they said.
