TSNAB to Tackle Drug Abuse with an Iron Hand

Hyderabad: TS Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TSNAB) said on Sunday that it will soon be procuring testing kits, similar to those used in national and international sports events to test athletes for possible drug abuse.

“TS NAB will also be adding portable drug detection kits. We are trying to procure state-of-the-art equipment from the global leaders,” said TS-NAB director Sandeep Shandilya.

Empty table tops, door handles, wash basin, empty pockets, wallets, hand bags will all carry evidence and only a swab or a saliva sample is needed to run the test, he said.

Shandilya warned colleges and other educational institutions and their management, to put in place other systems and checks so as to eradicate the menace of narcotic drugs in and around their premises.

“Any disregard will be viewed seriously,” he said.

TS NAB’s main focus would be on educational institutions, film and IT industry, bars and pubs, rave parties and resorts.

“If parents, teachers and police cannot save kids from falling prey then who else can? Each one has to understand his role thoroughly and prevent youth from falling into the trap,” said Shandilya.

It was also decided to have anti-drug committees (ADCs) in all schools and colleges. Each committee should have at least five members drawn from faculty, parents, students, non-teaching staff, NGOs, counsellors, de-addiction experts, hostel wardens and district administration, including Police.

“The ADCs should hold periodical meetings to discuss the steps taken to identify those indulging in drug peddling and consumption,” he added.
