Latest cars are the major cause for accidents

Drivers lack proper understanding of new features in high-end cars.

Visakhapatnam: Nearly 30 per cent of road accidents here are caused by those who are not properly trained in the use of hi-tech vehicles. Traffic police and RTA officials say that there are many who find it difficult to steer the new versions of four-wheels and other high-end vehicles. Driving schools have been giving training in ordinary vehicles whereas the systems of the new vehicles are based on new technology.

High-end cars and SUVs have features such as electronic sensor, power steering and steering monitoring system. A proper understanding of these systems is vital. About 1,100 roads accidents were reported in Vizag city this year, and these have claimed around 300 lives while over 1,200 were injured. About 30 of these accidents were reported due to poor driving skills. Drivers lost control over the advanced vehicles, noted ADCP (Traffic) K.M. Patrudu.

A senior motor vehicles inspector said one or two car companies have been operating schools to train those who buy their high-end vehicles, while most others have taken things easy. Driving requires a lot of concentration, confidence and patience, as also an idea about the technology used in the vehicle. “We plan to monitor the driving schools in the city and organise so-me events to create awar-eness among the drivers about the safety rules,” says deputy transport commissioner A.V. Rao.
