Kannur police intensify reach out programmes
Kannur: After Maoists were spotted in Kelakam early this week, the Kannur police have intensified their interactive campaigns in tribal settlements in Aralam and Paravoor. On Friday, a PSC coaching class was inaugurated by district police chief Sanjay Kumar Gurudin. Iritty DySP Prajeesh Thottathil will monitor the progress of the classes. A total of 120 candidates were selected from Aralam and Peravoor, which include 70 female candidates.
Friday's classes were led by retired principal from Kathiroor Higher Secondary School, Sahadevan Minni. The classes will be held on Sundays in the two centres. Government school buildings will be utilised for this purpose. Apart from the PSC coaching classes, two of the medical/engineering coaching institutes have agreed to offer free classes for two candidates from the area.
The police, along with NGOs in the area, will also help educating the school dropouts. They have identified children in the area and informed their parents that classes will be arranged in collaboration with the retired teachers. As per the requirements, classes can also be arranged in their houses, said the DySP. The progress of the training programmes will be monitored by the district police chief.
