DGP Lokanath Behera must probe custody death: State Human Rights Commission
Cheranalloor-native Shaheer Mohammed (48) was arrested on Wednesday evening for allegedly stabbing his neighbour, under the influence of alcohol.
KOCHI: The State Human Rights Commission on Friday asked Lokanath Behera, state police chief to directly probe the Cheranellore custody death charges, given the “intensity of the issue”. “The probe should mainly cover whether the police followed the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court upon arresting an accused,” Acting chairperson P. Mohandas said in his order. Cheranalloor-native Shaheer Mohammed (48) was arrested on Wednesday evening for allegedly stabbing his neighbour, under the influence of alcohol. However, he was found lying dead when in jail the next day morning.
