CM Pinarayi Vijayan to open Panniyankara rail overbridge tomorrow
Kozhikode: Panniyankara rail overbridge, a vital part of the monorail project in the city, will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinaray Vijayan on December 18 at Sumangali hall. The dream project has been realized after a two-decade long wait, during which traffic woes and difficulties were faced by people. “There will be a gathering of the members of residents association, social workers and the public, at Chakkum Kadavu Junction at 9 am for a rally to the inaugural ceremony hall, being organised by Panniyankara Area Developing Committee,” says P.T Imbichi Koya, General Secretary.
The government had sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the 18-month project but it took two years to fulfill the need of the people living in the southern end of the city. Panniyankara rail overbridge is one of the five major railway projects to accelerate the development of the city. The proposed light metro, covering a distance of 13.30 km from Meenchanda to Government Medical College, will have 14 stations at Medical College, Chevayur, Thondayad, Kottooli, Mufussil Bus Stand, KSRTC satation, Mananchira, Palayam, Railway Station, Pushpa Junction, Kallayi, Panniyankara, Vattakkinar and Meenchantha.
