Vijayawada: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) inaugurated exclusive Pink toilets near the Benz Circle in Vijayawada on Friday. Central constituency in-charge Devineni Avinash, along with Vijayawada mayor Rayana Bhagyalakshmi, deputy mayor Bellam Durga, corporators Shaheena Sulthana, Pravalika and A Nirmala Kumari and other dignitaries participated in the inauguration.
VMC commissioner Swapnil Dinkar Pundkar emphasised that the Pink toilets will be maintained by women. They will serve the crucial purpose of providing a clean and safe facility exclusively for women.
Mayor Rayana Bhagyalakshmi emphasised that pink toilets include vending machines, which provide three sanitary napkins for Rs 5.
Central constituency in-charge Avinash said the Pink toilets will have a separate enclosure, where mothers can feed their babies.
Maris Stella College students and their lecturer Swapna participated in the inaugural function. They expressed their gratitude to VMC for providing an exclusive and much-needed facility for women.
