HC Issues Interim Stay on Declaring Results of SI Recruitment Test

VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh High Court has issued an interim stay on announcement of results of the written test for selection of sub inspectors of police. It posted the next hearing in the case to Nov. 23.

A single judge bench of Justice Ramakrishna Prasad held the hearing in the case here on Friday and directed the police recruitment board to hold back the results until further orders.

Petitioner Aurogollu Durgaprasad along with 23 others filed a plea in the HC seeking its intervention. They alleged that, based on the direction of the court, measurements of height and chest were taken manually during the SI selection process’s physical fitness test. “Based on this wrong test, we were declared ineligible,” they said.

They filed another plea to issue a direction not to take further action in the SI recruitment notification issued on October 20, 2023.

Petitioners’ counsel R Venkatesh submitted to the court that those who were made eligible in physical test, carried out on the basis of the earlier notification, were made ineligible after the test. The test was based on a court direction to do so manually, unlike the earlier practice of doing it with digital devices.

He submitted details of measurements of height measured in 2018 and what was done recently.

The court observed that it was incomprehensible as to how the measurement of the height of applicants measured in 2018 could be reduced when they were measured again as per the recent notification. It asked how the height of an applicant measured at 169.1 cm in 2018 could come down to 167.6 cm recently.
