AP Minority Commission Receives 48 Petitions in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam: State Minority Commission on Thursday received 48 petitions from people belonging to various minority communities in Visakhapatnam.
Commission chairman Dr. Iqbal Ahmed Khan personally received the petitions at the Government Circuit House. Among the petitioners, Satinder Singh Sethi of the Sikh community alleged that police have filed illegal cases against him. They have also threatened him. In his letter, Sethi told the minority commission chairman that he has only been fighting for his rights in the local Gurudwara.
Sheik Madina from Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district said officials are not mentioning the names of minority representatives in foundation stone plaques of government buildings. Srikakulam Jamia Masjid management committee president Mohibullah Khan requested the commission chairman members of minorities too be appointed as Anganwadi teachers and workers. Mohibullah Khan also sought furniture for the Waqf Board office in Srikakulam. Dr. Iqbal Ahmed Khan assured the petitioners that justice will be done after verifying all the facts.
Later, at a meeting held in the collector office in Visakhapatnam, he informed minorities from north coastal Andhra Pradesh that the government will extend all help for welfare and development of minorities in the state. Minority commission member Sayyed Hidayatullah said their first meeting had been held in Kurnool.
The meeting in Visakhapatnam is the second. He disclosed that 67 petitions have been solved to the satisfaction of complainants.
