Hyderabad: Telangana state recorded 952 new cases of Covid-19 and three deaths from the disease on Monday, taking the toll so far to 1,410 and the number of cases to 2,58,828 since the first Covid-19 case was reported in the state on March 2.
The state conducted on Monday, a little more than twice the number of tests it did on Sunday and that reflected in the rise in the new cases. For Sunday, the health department had said that it conducted 17,296 tests from which 502 new cases were found. For Monday, the 952 cases were found from among the 38,245 tests.
Irrespective of the number of tests conducted, Hyderabad city and the rest of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation area continued to report the highest daily Covid-19 cases. On Monday, the new cases in GHMC area were recorded 150 cases. The next highest numbers came from adjoining districts – 77 from Medchal-Malkajgiri, and 68 from Ranga Reddy.
Of the total cases in the state so far, the number of asymptomatic patients continues to dominate at 1,81,179. The high number of asymptomatic cases has been a cause for concern for the health department officials who have repeatedly urged people not to ignore primary healthcare measures such as wearing a face mask properly while in public spaces and maintaining physical distance of two metres from others.
