Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu to inaugurate fisheries forum
KOCHI: The 11th Indian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum to be organised by the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology in collaboration with the Asian Fisheries Society Indian Branch (AFSIB) from November 21 to 23 will debate various issues faced by the fisheries sector. The conference to be inaugurated by Vice president M. Venkaiah Naidu on November 21 will address the major issues hindering the growth of fisheries and aquaculture sectors by providing a scientific platform for intellectual deliberations on current research outputs and identify the research and development needs of the sector.
There will be 10 different sessions on various topics including ‘Fisheries Resources, Genetics, Biodiversity and Management’ and ‘Safe Fish: Quality, Risk Assessment and Regulations’. The event will have technical sessions, aquaculture and seafood processors’ conclave and technology showcasing by different organizations which will be attended by more than 1000 delegates from the country and abroad. Governor P. Sathasivam, Minister for Fisheries J. Mercykutty Amma, K.V. Thomas MP will also attend the inaugural function. The first Indian Fisheries Forum was held in 1987 in Mangalore and since then, every three years, the AFSIB has been holding the Indian Forum successfully.
