Second phase of anti-Gail stir kicked off
KOZHIKODE: Former KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran inaugurated the second phase of the anti-GAIL agitation at Eranjimavu, Mukkam, near here on Thursday.
UDF leaders and anti-GAIL activists shared the dais at the venue where hundreds of workers gathered. Mr Sudheeran, who spoke , said that police had unleashed terror on the agitators. "It is the duty of the state to clear the doubts and fears of the public over the project," he said and asked the government to remove the cover of secrecy over it.
The agitators announced that the second phase would be peaceful. Action council leader C.P. Cheriya Muhammed said that a meeting of victims in each panchayat covered by the project was on as part of the campaign against suppressing the rights of the common man. A meeting will be held here on Saturday in which representatives of victims from all districts in Malabar will attend. A coordination committee also would be formed at the meeting, he added.
It may be recalled that the action council had rejected the revised relief package announced by GAIL. It had also demanded the release of 11 action council leaders from prison.
