Sabarimala pilgrims get green note

Protocol to keep shrine free from plastic.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Suchitwa Mission has urged Sabarimala pilgrims to strictly comply with the green protocol, especially avoiding plastic and other non-biodegradable materials in “irumudikkettu”. The mission in a release said Sabarimala and premises are susceptible to serious sanitation and hygiene and environmental problems on account of indiscriminate litter. The state government has imposed curbs on the use of disposable cups and plates. Pilgrims should be careful to avoid them completely and use only steel vessels. Use only cloth bag instead of plastic cover.

Pilgrims who halt for cooking at Erumely, Ettumanur, Kaduthuruthy, Thirunakkara, Kadappattoor and others resting points must carry steel vessels. Care should be taken to rid Pandalam, Appachimedu and Nedlimala of garbage. Those who bathe in Pamba should not leave cloth and other materials in the holy river. Pilgrims should use public toilets and other facilities for primary needs. Lakhs of pilgrims congregate at Sabarimala every season. As their numbers increase so does the waste pile. Pilgrims should realise that keeping the sanctum sanctorum of Ayyappa premises is god worship.
