Cartoonist Bala vows to continue fight injustice

The seminar was inaugurated by retired justice Cyriac Joseph. Former MP, Sebastian Paul delivered the keynote address.

KOCHI: “Despite threats and challenges, I will continue fight against injustice through cartoons,” said Chennai-based cartoonist Bala, who was arrested for drawing a cartoon criticising Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and officials. He was addressing the seminar organised by Ernakulam Press Club and Kerala Media Academy as part of the National Media Day on Thursday. “I was arrested from my home for uploading the cartoon onto my Facebook page. The cartoon blamed top government functionaries including Chief Minister for not acting against loan sharks. The police is yet to return my laptop and mobile phone,” he said.

He added that the situation in Kerala can never be compared with that of Tamil Nadu. The seminar was inaugurated by retired justice Cyriac Joseph. Former MP, Sebastian Paul delivered the keynote address. On the day, District Information Office, in association with Sacred Heart College of Communication, organised seminar on ‘Press freedom – bans and challenges’, which was attended by district information office Nijas Jewel and senior media persons.
