47,224 traffic violators booked, Rs 1.45 crore penalties imposed
Hyderabad: The Rachakonda traffic police booked 47,224 violators for breaking various rules, and imposed penalties of nearly Rs 1.45 crore during a special drive from October 9 to 15.
Among the violators, 107 were booked for drunk driving of which 49 respondents were produced before the court, which fined them Rs 1,57,500, according to a press note.
As a part of achieving the objective of accident-free roads, Rachakonda police conducted 66 traffic awareness programmes which was attended by 1,633 persons. Another 66 attended counselling against drunk driving.
Rachakonda police said that between October 9 and 15, 55 road accidents, including 10 fatal ones were recorded in the commissionerate. Most of the accidents occurred due to human error and road engineering defects, police said in a press note.
The traffic engineering cell staff along with other stakeholders have visited spots where eight fatal accidents had taken place and recommended remedial measures.
