Female elephant found dead in forest in Sathyamangalam

A team of veterinary doctors conducted a post-mortem at the spot.

ERODE: A female elephant in search of its calf was tragically found dead, stuck inside slush in the Sathyamangalam forest range on Saturday.

According to officials, the 18-year-old female elephant was found dead on the Moyar riverbed in the Popthikuppai area inside the Sathyamangalam reserve forest on Saturday evening.

On information, forest officials led by the joint director of the Sathyamangalam Reserve forest, Mr Arun rushed to the spot.

A team of veterinary doctors conducted a post-mortem at the spot. An official said, “herds of elephants visit the area regularly to drink water. This female elephant lost its calf recently and came here in search of the calf, but got stuck inside the slush. According to the doctors, the elephant in all probability died due to asphyxiation.Further investigations are on.
