Chennai: Luxury car hits 2 students on bike
Chennai: In yet another incident of rich youngsters in luxury cars knocking down people on the road, a speeding BMW hit two youths on a bike and another car at RA Puram on Sunday morning.
The engineering students on the bike had a narrow escape, but of them Shankar Narayanan was admitted to hospital with both his legs fractured.
Shankar Narayanan was riding the bike with E.Sudarshan on his pillion from Adyar to Nungambakkam to attend morning classes when the mishap happened. When they were near the Sangeetha restaurant in RA Puram, a BMW car coming from the opposite direction hit them.
The BMW driver turned sharply to avoid hitting a reversing car and rammed the bike. While Shankar fell on the road, Sudarshan was flung on top of another car. Due to the impact of the fall, he suffered fractures in his legs.
The BMW car stopped after hitting another vehicle. Passersby who witnessed the incident immediately nabbed the BMW driver and rushed the injured to a private hospital nearby. The incident happened around 7.40 am.
Police later identified the driver as Venkitesh (26), a resident of Triplicane who runs a textile shop in Besant Nagar. He was driving from a star hotel where he is believed to have attended a party. “He was drunk. He was booked under IPC 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and being remanded,” traffic police said.
