TC Palya, Horamavu roads to be restored in 2 months: BBMP chief
Bengaluru: After several protests by the residents of TC Palya Main Road and Horamavu, BBMP Commissioner Anil Kumar visited the place to inspect the condition of the road and assured the residents that the roads will be restored in a couple of months.
The residents of both areas carried out several protests to draw the attention of officials, and had met every officer from civic departments. They had no one to go to, as even the local MLA Byrathi Basavaraj has been disqualified. However, continued protests woke up the officials.
The roads were dug up a number of times to lay underground water and drainage pipelines, but never restored. Several shops and business establishments on these stretches shut due to clouds of dust. Motorists and residents were finding it difficult to commute through the roads. When it rained, the situation turned worse with vehicles getting stuck in the mud.
Mr Kumar, who visited the spot, assured the residents that the restoration work will start in two months. Ms Sashikala, a resident of TC Palya Main Road, who was also at the meeting, said, “The BBMP commissioner met all the officers, including the Joint Commissioner of Mahadevapura Zone and found that laying of pipes has almost been completed and assured the residents that the roads will be set right at the earliest.”
The Commissioner also requested the residents to avail whatever connections they require to their houses or buildings within 30 days, as they will not be allowed to dig roads once the restoration work begins.
A senior BBMP officer said, “They have identified eight roads, which are in bad shape for restoration work. They will also float short-term tenders to complete the redevelopment of these identified roads, which will include shoulder drains, footpaths and road work. The zone level officers were instructed to hold meetings with the residents every week to review the progress of works.”
