St Francis gives up on dress code

Police officials, including women constables, were also rushed to the spot to avoid any untoward incident.

Hyderabad: The dress code which specified the length of kurtis for students of St. Francis women's college has been lifted by the college management following a huge protest from students on Monday at the college campus at Begumpet.

Students started gathering for the protest at around 8:45 am, boycotting their classes and it continued till the college administration came down to ease the dress code rules by afternoon.

Police officials, including women constables, were also rushed to the spot to avoid any untoward incident.

Students came prepared for the protest with placards, “We are skipping our lessons to teach you one,” “Educate not Regulate,” “Stop shaming young girls. We are not sexual objects,” “D grade mindset B grade NAAC,” “Doesn't matter what we wear” and others.

The message regarding the protest reached far and wide on social media platforms and students from other colleges, including boys, also joined it.

The agitating students stated, “The specification regarding the length of kurtis was not in the rule book that students signed to accept at the beginning of the academic year. New rules were put in place in August which are unacceptable. We were humiliated when the management placed lady security guards at the gate and restricted the entry of students whose kurtis were above knee-length. This gave rise to the protest call.”
