THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Stones were pelted at the Vande Bharat train in Kannur district of Kerala on Wednesday.

The incident of stone-pelting took place between Thalassery and Mahe at around 3.30 pm. Vande Bharat left for Thiruvananthapuram from Kannur railway station at 2.30 pm.

The windows of the C8 coach were shattered in the stone pelting. A team of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel carried out an inspection in the train following the incident.

According to passengers, the broken pieces of glasses fell inside the coach. Notwithstanding the incident, the train continued its journey towards Thiruvananthapuram. The broken glass was fixed temporarily to facilitate the onward journey of the train. A detailed investigation is being carried out by the RPF. Two days ago, stones were pelted at two trains in Kannur district.

In its preliminary assessment, the RPF said that the incident does not seem to be a planned one. However, the frequency of such attacks on running trains has increased over the past few days.
