Apollo Cancer Centres removes giant cell tumor from expectant mother
Hyderabad: The Apollo Cancer Centres in Hyderabad successfully removed a life-threatening tumor from behind the womb of a pregnant woman, giving her a new lease of life. The pregnant woman, Bhavana Neerukonda, belonging to Telangana, was in the second trimester of her pregnancy.
After being diagnosed with the Giant Cell Tumour (GCT), she was advised to terminate her pregnancy. The couple consulted several doctors to find the right treatment and Dr Rajeev Reddy, consultant, Ortho Oncology, of ACC advised her to undergo the surgery.
Bhavana was admitted to the hospital and a premature delivery was carried out via C-section followed by the 14-hour surgery to remove the tumour. The team adopted cutting-edge techniques, including 3D printing to navigate the intricate surgery.
Dr Rooma Sinha, Consultant Gynaecologist, Dr. Shekhar Reddy, Senior Consultant Anesthesiologist & Pain Specialist, and Dr. Raghav Dutt, Senior Consultant Spine Surgery assisted Dr Rajeev Reddy in the procedure.
Now, Bhavana has recovered and is leading a normal life. Her baby is 1 1/2 years old.
