CM inaugurates a slew of sub-stations

Chennai: Chief Minister M K Stalin visited the call centre, set up to address the grievances of electricity consumers at the office of Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) in Chennai on Tuesday besides launching a plethora of projects under the Electricity and Milk and Dairy departments and handed over incentives to distinguished sports persons from the State.

At the grievances redress centre, ‘Minagam,’ which has effectively dealt with over 10 lakh complaints from consumers since its inception on June 20, 2021, the Chief Minister rang up the consumer who was the last in the list of 10 lakh complainants and enquired about the department’s redress mechanism.

He also attended calls that landed at the centre and instructed the authorities to look into the complaints expeditiously. He checked the register at the centre and found that of the 10.50,282 complaints received till Monday, 10,41,872 had been resolved, which is a strike rate of 99 percent, an official press release said.

The Chief Minister drove to Mingam for the surprise visit after inaugurating from the Secretariat 16 new electrical sub-stations, set up at a cost of Rs 161.38 crore, and 52 upgraded transformers at 51 sub-stations. The upgradation was done at a cost of Rs 97.56 crore.

When Stalin enquired with the Electricity Minister, Senthil Balaji, about the functioning of the grievances redress cell, he told him that they had already dealt with 10 lakh complaints, which prompted him to make a personal visit to ‘Minagam.’

The Aavin State Central laboratory building constructed inside the Madhavaram Milk Colony at a cost of Rs 8 crore was also inaugurated by the Chief Minister on Tuesday. The laboratory is equipped with modern technological devices like Triple Quadruple Liquid Chromatography with Mass Spectrometer, Gas Chromatography with Mass Spectrometer and Inductively Coupled Mass Spectrometer.

The devices are housed in the laboratory that is spread out on an area of 17,422 square feet space and would be used to check the quality of milk supplied to consumers by Aavin.

Besides declaring open the modern laboratory, he also gave away appointment orders to 50 persons given jobs on compassionate grounds with 10 of them receiving the papers personally.

Among the sportspersons who were presented cheques to the total value of Rs 4.31 crore were those who won medals at the 22nd CommonWealth Games and Pranav Venkatesh, the 75th GrandMaster in Chess.

Table Tennis players A Sharat Kamal and G Sathyan, squash players Sourav Ghosal, Deepika Pallikal and five coaches and fencing champion Bhavani Devi were those who had won medals in the CommonWealth Games.
