Rowdy murder: Paramour gets bail

Bengaluru: The High Court has allowed a petition seeking bail by Varshini, who is arrested in connection with the murder of notorious rowdy sheeter Lakshman.

She is accused of helping the victim's rival gang carry out the crime. On March 7, Lakshman was hacked to death in broad daylight near Iskcon temple by 5-6 heavily armed miscreants.

The court has granted bail to Varshini by imposing certain conditions including surrendering her passport, and to assist with the investigation along with providing sureties
nd bond.

The accused, a resident of Jnanabharathi is an MSc psychology graduate from London. The victim, Lakshman, a resident of Mariyappana Palya, was a notorious rowdy sheeter and had over 25 cases of murder, attempt to murder, robbery, kidnapping and land grabbing booked against him.

According to police, it is alleged Lakshman and Varshini were residing in the same locality and were involved in financial dealings. However he was unaware that Varshini was also the girlfriend of Roopesh, a member of Cat Raj's gang.

It is further alleged that Cat Raj, who was planning to eliminate Lakshman, approached Varshini and hatched a plan.
Relief for Kateel

The High Court has quashed the FIR and lower court proceedings against three people, including MP Nalin Kumar Kateel. Bantwal police station had registered the case for violation of Model Code of Conduct against them.

Kateel, Ganesh Karnik and Harikrishna Bantwal were accused of personally abusing Congress leader Ramanath Rai at a BJP workers’ conference while campaigning for 2018 assembly election.
