Malayalam actress assault case: WCC lambastes ex-DGP remarks T P Senkumar
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), a forum of women actors and technicians in the Malayalam film industry, is planning to move Kerala Women's Commission against the 'insulting remarks' former state police chief T.P. Senkumar had made against the actor who was sexually assaulted. It is alleged that Mr Senkumar made the remarks in a telephonic conversation he made with another person while he was giving an interview to a Malayalam weekly. The audio record of the interview has these remarks, too. A social media statement of WCC said that the alleged remarks of Mr Senkumar were an insult to the women in the filmfield and hence the Women's Commission would be approached to initiate legal action against him.
Meanwhile, the cyber police probing into the case against Mr Senkumar for allegedly making statements that could trigger communal sentiments in the interview is likely to take his statement only after verifying the audio records. The police team headed by cyber police station circle inspector K.R. Biju has already collected the audio records. Police sources said a non-bailable section (IPC 153A - promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) was registered against Mr Senkumar but the investigation team may not initiate steps like arresting the former police chief, unless there were any undue pressure.
Mr Senkumar, however, remained tight-lipped on moving the High Court seeking quashing of the FIR. A retired police officer said the chances of Mr Senskumar landing in legal trouble are remote as he would be able to support his statements on Muslim population and love jihad with facts. “He could not be also held legally liable for the alleged adverse remarks against the actor as it was a personal remark made in a personal conversation,” he said. “However, it could be embarrassing for him.”
