NIMS hires endocrinologist
Hyderabad: After a hue and cry outside the hospital by patients and their families the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences has appointed endocrinologist, Dr G. Veera Chanukya.
The appointment came after more than 100 patients were forced to go back everyday since June 15 as the department in-charge Dr Rekha Singh had to go on leave for three months. In her absence there was no other additional professor and the patients suffering from diabetes, thyroid and other endocrine problems had to go back. Patients also staged a dharna on July 12, demanding director Dr K Manohar appoint a doctor for the department and make it operational.
Under pressure from the people, the ministry of health and family welfare directed Dr Manohar to appoint a doctor and make the department functional immediately. Dr Chanukya was appointed and department was immediately started from July 15th onwards. The out-patient services will be attended by the doctor from 8 am onwards and evening clinics are also operated from 4 pm onwards.
