Kochi: Women assault family for stopping car abruptly

The incident resulted in a half-an-hour traffic jam in the section.

Kochi: In a shocking road rage incident in the city, three women on a scooter intercepted a car and thrashed the house wife sitting on the front seat along with her 18-day-old baby after her spouse suddenly stopped the vehicle near Kadavanthra here on Saturday evening. Following a complaint by the family, the cops arrested Santra Sekhar (26), a resident of Kumaranasan Nagar, M Ajitha (25) from Thrissur and Sreela Padmanabhan (30), hailing from Kottayam.

According to cops, the incident happened at 5.30 pm when the women were proceeding to a flat in Vytilla through the Subhash Chandra Bose Road after turning left from Kadavanthra Pumb Junction. Vytilla native P. Prajith, wife Sreeja and their two children were in the car that was in front of the bike. He applied brakes suddenly to avoid collision with an autorickshaw that turned to a bylane without prior indication.

"Santra was riding the scooter and she overtook the car from the wrong side and abused the family using foul language. An enraged Prajith tried to come out of the car but his wife stopped him. The women's ire then fell on his wife, seated in front and holding her 18-day-old baby. Santra then thrashed the housewife," police said.

The incident resulted in a half-an-hour traffic jam in the section. Finally a police team led by Kadavantra SI T. Shaji took the women into custody. "The trio claimed they were tele serial artists. Upon inspection of their scooter, we recovered three bottles of beer. However, during medical test, they were found not to have consumed alcohol," the police said. Separate cases for assaulting, threatening and using foul language have been taken against the trio.
