Telangana to generate 20 GW power, says Harish Rao

HYDERABAD: Telangana’s electricity production has reached 17,000 MW, with plans to increase it to 20,000 MW (20 Giga Watts or GW) by the end of the year, said finance minister T. Harish Rao. This achievement places Telangana in a position to export electricity from next year, he said, reflecting the implementation of a ₹40,000-crore power distribution system.

Speaking at the fourth edition of CFO Conclave 2023, organised by the industry body Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here on Friday, he said Telangana's economic performance is equally impressive, with its per capita income touching ₹3.17 lakh, 86 per cent higher than the national average.

The state's emphasis on sectors such as information technology (IT), agriculture, and welfare schemes has contributed significantly to this economic growth, creating opportunities for its residents.

Telangana had harvested 3.5 lakh metric tonnes of food grains and had surpassed Punjab, a long-standing leader, in paddy production. Infrastructure development such as the completion of the Kaleshwaram project, the world's largest multi-stage irrigation project, in a record time of three and a half years reflected the state's commitment to efficient governance, he said.
