New software to track students bunking class in Kochi

The software has already been installed in 20 schools in Mattancherry where it is implemented in the first phase.

KOCHI: Kochi City police has launched a Student Care Project to track students who bunk classes in schools and colleges including parallel colleges and idle their time in different localities. The police has identified that these students are prone to become the targets of the drug and liquor mafia and become users of the intoxicants.

Apart from regular checks by different police squads in places like parks, movie halls, malls, stadiums, railway stations, bus stands, wine parlours and other such spots in order to track errant students, a software will also be deployed for the purpose.

The software has already been installed in 20 schools in Mattancherry sub-division where it is implemented in the first phase. It will be extended to Ernakulam and Thrikkakara sub-divisions towards the month end in the second phase. Emails will be generated on the students who bunk classes which will reach the school and college authorities and parents.

The co-operation of residents associations, traders and auto and taxi drivers will be enlisted for the implementation of the project, said City Police Commissioner M.P. Dinesh. Police in mufti and uniform will be deployed for the purpose. A 24x7 call centre will be established soon for the purpose under a woman police officer.
