Bengaluru mayor to babus: Ensure segregation or face action

BJP corporator Shantakumari said that garbage has not been cleared for the last 10 days in Govindarajnagar constituency.

BENGALURU: Mayor Manjunath Reddy directed senior officials to suspend low rung officials who fail to ensure complete segregation of garbage at source.

Addressing corporators at the council meeting on Thursday he said senior and top level officials have been striving hard to make segregation at source a success, but ward level officers have miserably failed and action must be initiated against them, he said.

Earlier, BJP corporator Shantakumari said that garbage has not been cleared for the last 10 days in Govindarajnagar constituency. Earlier, the garbage generated in the constituency was being sent to MSGP and now the officials said that it has been diverted to Subbarayanapalya. The black spots have multiplied making it an eyesore and they should be cleared, she demanded.

Subodh Yadav, BBMP special commissioner (Solid Waste Management) said that although the capacity of MSGP plant is 600 tonnes about 750 tonnes was sent. This gave rise to opposition by villagers and hence diverted to Subbarayanapalya, he said.

Police security
In the wake of wide spread opposition from villagers there is a need for police force to transport garbage. A meeting has been held in this regard with DG&IGP and Bangalore police commissioner and they have agreed positively.

15 years to develop a lake!
Congress corporator Kokila Chandrashekar said that Kempambudhi lake is being developed for the last 15 years, but still the work has not been completed. Every year money is being earmarked for the lake development, she said. In reply, Mayor ordered a Technical Vigilance Cell under the Commissioner (TVCC) probe into it.

Opposition leader Padmanabha Reddy alleged that the BBMP, which should be preventing lake encroachment, have been helping builders to form roads by encroaching upon lake at Ibbalur. The BBMP has sanctioned permission to builders to form road by encroaching upon the lake.

Jayamahal corporator M. K. Gunashekar demanded the BBMP to get the audit of lake water quality. This is not being done and should be taken up, he pointed out.
