Man attempts suicide at Nandyal Collectorate

KURNOOL: A man attempted suicide at the Collectorate in Nandyal on Tuesday alleging that followers of finance minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy are attempting to unlawfully seize his family's land in Bethamcherla.

The man doused himself in petrol and attempted self-immolation in front of the police, media personnel, and onlookers. Police intervened and assured him that officials would address his problem.

The man then withdrew his suicide attempt. He has been identified as Ravi Kumar, 29 of Bethamcherla.

Ravi Kumar said that he is being continuously harassed to sell his agricultural land. He claimed that despite repeatedly lodging complaints with authorities in the matter, he has not received any justice.

He expressed his hope that his death would have opened the eyes of authorities., leading to a fair resolution or a change in attitude.

The matter is related to construction of a road leading to a mining quarry. The road is passing through the man’s land. Not just Ravi Kumar, several other farmers are opposing laying of the road.

Frustrated by the continuous disturbances being caused by minister's followers, Ravi Kumar resorted to the desperate act at the Collectorate.
