Kurnool: Renowned Brahmaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple at Srisailam has started Maha Mrityunjaya Yagam for 40 days seeking God Shiva’s blessings in overcoming Coronavirus crisis.
Temple executive officer K. S. Rama Rao said the Maha Yagam is being launched following an appeal by devout from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra states, who are suffering both economically and health-wise due to the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic. Devotees believe that Mrityunjaya Mantras will protect all from suffering.
The 40-day Yagam began on Sunday and will end on June 25.
Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple at Srisailam is a world-famous shrine dedicated to deities Shiva and Parvati. The temple is significant for Hindu sects of both Shaivam and Shaktam. This temple has one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and is one of 18 Shakti Peethas of Goddess Parvati.
Shiva is worshiped at the shrine as Mallikarjuna and represented in the form of Lingam. His consort Parvati is depicted as Brahmaramba. Srisailam is one of the only three temples in India, where both Jyotirlinga and Shaktipeeth are revered.
