Suicide: Woman’s notebook recovered

Though the police had searched the house for evidence of black magic, nothing could be recovered.

Thiruvananthapuram: The police on Thursday recovered a notebook of Lekha who committed suicide along with her daughter Vaishnavi at Neyyattinkara the other day, in which she says that her husband had questioned her about how the money he sent from the Gulf was spent by her.

“My husband had a salary of `22,000, with which I had to pay up two loans and interests to money lenders. My husband knew about it. It has been 9 months since my husband returned from the Gulf. He didn’t go to the bank, despite getting loan recovery notice or seeing the advertisement of loan recovery in newspapers,” she wrote. She was not given proper food by the family, according to the notebook.

Chandran, her husband, in a statement to the police admitted that sorcery was performed in the house last week. The court remanded Chandran, his mother Krishnamma, her sister Shantha and husband Kashi, arrested for abetment of suicide, for 14 days. Four people, including Canara Bank chief manager, have filed anticipatory bail pleas against possible arrest in the case. Though the police had searched the house for evidence of black magic, nothing could be recovered.

Kristhudas, broker in the land deal, said in a statement to the police that there was no attempt by Chandran to curtail the sale of the house. However, the sale could not happen as buyers were skeptical about the special structures built on the back of the house for conducting poojas.

The police in the remand report said that Lekha and her daughter ended their lives due to the distress over family dispute, unpaid loans and the constant mental torture from her husband and in-laws. The police also recorded the statements of the neighbours and other witnesses. They will also record the statements of the bank officials from where the family had taken a loan.
