Kochi: Notorious thief strikes again

The thief, notorious for violent attacks on victims if challenged, managed to break into an advertising firm.

Kochi: Notorious thief Muthu Selvam has struck again, this time robbing an advertising firm in Pullepaddy early Thursday while evading at least eight police patrolling teams deployed to nab him.

A native of Tamil Nadu, Muthu Selvam was caught in CCTV cameras earlier on Tuesday midnight committing robberies near Durbar Hall Ground. The Kochi police identified him and since then deployed the additional patrolling teams.

However, the thief, notorious for violent attacks on victims if challenged, managed to break in to the office of the advertising firm and decamped with Rs 40,000 in the wee hours of Thursday.

As usual, Muthuselvam was least bothered about the presence of CCTV cameras and committed the loot at 'Clouds Advertising' in Pulleppady without covering his face.

"The robber was again caught in CCTV camera. He was seen using two iron rods to break open a portion of the door and sneaked into the office around 3.30 am," police said.

Meanwhile, the cops exuded confidence that the robber would be caught soon. "We're trying to zero in on his hideout. The night patrolling has been intensified and a direction given to teams to quiz all those found in suspicious circumstances," said a police official.

According to cops, the man in his forties attempted to enter another house in Chitoor Road by but fled when the family woke up hearing the sound.

Earlier on Tuesday night, he had broken into a dental clinic, a non-banking financial institution, a printing press and a house, all located on Divan Road near Durbar Hall Ground.

Muthu Selvam was released from jail a week ago after undergoing five year jail term for various crimes, mostly robberies.
