HYDERABAD: The maximum temperature in the state soared neared the 45º Celsius mark for the first time this summer on Sunday, with Dasturabad in Nirmal recording 44.8ºC. Many districts averaged above 40ºC.
Kumaram Bheem and Nalgonda recorded 44.7ºC while the maximum temperature was 44.4ºC in Peddapalli, according to data provided by the TS Development Planning Society. All districts were in the orange category — which alerts people to be alert and prepared to extreme weather events such as severe heat or heavy rain — except Hyderabad where the highest temperature was 40ºC, recorded in Uppal.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the maximum temperature was likely to rise by 2-3ºC degrees in the coming three days and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the state and the orange alert will continue for most of the districts except Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Yadadri, Vikarabad and Sangareddy.
Light to moderate rains or thundershowers are expected in the week ahead at isolated places owing to a weather phenomenon called ‘trough discontinuity’ extending from south central Maharashtra to Tamil Nadu.
For the next 48 hours, the city will remain partly cloudy with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be 39ºC and 24ºC respectively.
