Environmental sustainability fetches international praise for hotels

Taj Hotels also holds the highest number of EarthCheck certifications in India.

Chennai: Their commitment to environmental sustainability made 67 hotels under Taj Hotels Palaces and Safaris, managed by Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), the highest Gold Certification by the international agency, EarthCheck.

By virtue of the certification programme proposed by EarthCheck, the certified hotels will contribute to a saving of approximately 925 million mega joules of energy, 1,91,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide, 2.4 billion litres of water, and 6 million litres of waste. According to a release by the company, Taj Hotels has thus become the global hospitality player with the highest number of EarthCheck Gold Certification. Taj Hotels also holds the highest number of EarthCheck certifications in India

Commenting on the achievement, Dr. P.V. Ramana Murthy, Executive Vice President & Global Head, The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) said, “We are privileged to be associated with an organisation as prestigious as EarthCheck.
