Kozhikode: Health officials seize stale food, hotels fined
Kozhikode: The health wing of Kozhikode Corporation is acting tough on hoteliers not following good health and hygiene practices in their establishments. Led by health officer Dr R. S. Gopakumar, they cracked down on hotels near Thondayad Bypass and served notices and imposed fine on Thursday. They conducted raids on six hotels and confiscated more than 15 kg decayed chicken, 10 kg rice and 10 litres of used oil and spurious ghee.
They imposed fine on four - Cochin Majlis, Sopanam, Al-Khair and Pure South - and issued notices to Copper Folio and Adukkala to rectify faults. “We imposed fine on hotels from where we seized old food as a first warning. We will close down such hotels if they do not comply with our directives,” he told Deccan Chronicle. He said raids would continue in coming days. Superintendent Haridas and health inspector Sivadasan were also part of the squad.
