Non-refund of excess fee: Kamineni medical college gets contempt notice

HYDERABAD: The division bench of the Telangana High Court, comprising Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice N. Tukaramji, on Thursday issued notices to the management of Kamineni Institute of Medical Sciences at Narketpally in a
contempt case regarding non-refund of the excess tuition fee collected from
the PG medical students from 2016-19.

The bench was dealing with a contempt case filed by some doctors, who had
completed PG courses in the college, alleging that it was a willful breach of the common order issued by the High Court in January 2022. In the common order, the court had scrapped GOs 41 and 43, abnormally increasing the PG medical tuition fees for 2016-19, without getting approval from the fees regulatory committee.

The court had directed all private colleges to refund the excess fees that were collected and return the original certificates of students, which they had kept on the grounds that they did not pay the fees as per GO. Despite the court orders, some colleges did not comply with the court orders, including Kamineni college.

The court adjourned the case to April 24.
