Kerala High Court grants interim bail for P Krishnadas

The court ordered that in the event of his arrest, he shall be released on bail on his executing a bond for Rs. 1 lakh.

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday granted five day interim bail to P Krishnandas, Chairman and Managing Trustee of Nehru College of Educational and Charitable Trust in the suicide of Jishnu Pranoy, a student at the group's the Nehru Engineering College, Pambadi. The court ordered that interim bail could be granted for five days so that he could participate in the meetings convened by the district collector concerned to discuss and solve the issues at the college. The court ordered that in the event of his arrest, he shall be released on bail on his executing a bond for Rs. 1 lakh.

Krishnadas contended that he wasn’t able to attend the meetings convened by the district collector to solve the Nehru college issue. Counsel appearing for the accused argued that there was absolutely no material to connect him with the crime. There was no allegation that the petitioner had instigated the suicide. The petitioner being the chairman of the college, had to appear before different authorities and explain the circumstances to protect the interest of his institutions. His presence was required for proper guidance of the institutions.

Meanwhile, Sanjith K. Viswanathan, the PRO of Nehru the college on Thursday submitted a plea before the principal sessions court in Thrissur seeking anticipatory bail. He is one of the five accused in the suicide case of Jishnu Pranoy, a student of the college. As per the investigation report, Jishnu was physically and mentally tortured by the college authorities that made his take the extreme step. The court will consider the plea on Monday. Mr Viswanathan is the son of senior congress leader K.P. Viswanathan.
