Hyderabad: Eight organs of two persons who had been declared brain dead were donated by their families here on Thursday. Both of them had suffered severe brain strokes.
Kolla Sambasiva Reddy, 69. collapsed at a bus stop when he was returning from a wedding. He was admitted to Yashoda Hospital where he was declared brain dead. His wife, Ms Janaki Laxmi Devi, gave consent for the organ donation following which the kidneys and liver of Sambasiva Reddy were harvested.
V. Venkat Reddy, 38, working as an ambulance driver in a private hospital at Mahbubnagar, collapsed after suffering from severe headache and vomiting. He was shifted to Global Hospitals for treatment.
His condition did not improve and internal bleeding continued. Following this, a neurosurgeon declared him brain dead. His wife V Neeraja gave consent for the donation of his kidneys, liver and corneas.
