Mutton, broiler chicken, country chicken, fish and prawns are the main dishes for Kanuma, a non-vegetarian treat. As per tradition, most people who celebrate this prefer non-vegetarian dishes. This sees heavy rush at meat sales outlets.

The chicken price was Rs 140 a kg a few days ago and it was sold at Rs 250 on Sunday. Country chicken was sold at Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000 per bird. Seafood, fish and prawns were also sold at higher prices, depending on the festival demand.

Interestingly, mutton prices remained the same at Rs 800 per kg. Some people brought the livestock from neighbouring states and sold them here for the festival season.
