National cyber award for Kerala police officer
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a fillip to the cyber investigation skills of Kerala police, a police officer from the state has won the national award for the best cyber investigator, while the cyber wing of the state police was selected as runner-up for its cyber capabilities. Vigilance SP K.E. Baiju was selected as the best cyber investigator at a cyber security summit organised by the Data Security Council of India and NASSCOM in Delhi the other day. The probe into a hi-tech online robbery by a Romanian gang by looting information of ATM cards by fixing wireless routers and micro cameras won the award for Mr. Baiju.
The cyber capabilities of Kerala police were honoured considering the service it has been rendering to police forces of various other states in cracking cyber crimes. Hi-tech Crime Inquiry Cell circle inspector S. Sreekanth and city shadow police unit member Manikandan received the awards on behalf of the state police, a statement from the state police said. Mr. Baiju was Cantonment assistant commissioner while the hi-tech online robbery by the Romanian gang surfaced last year.
