Hyderabad: Green panel says study lake orders
Hyderabad: The south zone bench of the National Green Tribunal at Chennai on Thursday directed the state government to conduct a study on GO-111, which prohibits establishments that cause pollution in a 10-km radius around Himayatsagar and Osmansagar, by consulting villagers and stakeholders who had moved courts and the tribunal seeking a re-look at the GO.
The NGT directed the government to submit the study report as soon as possible. The government had informed the tribunal on December 7 that the drinking water needs of Hyderabad were met by water from the Krishna and Godavari rivers. It said it had formed a committee to study on the role of Himayat-sagar and Osmansagar in the drinking water supply system.
‘111 GO Porata Samstha’ leader P. Karthik Reddy, who has been fighting for revising the government order, said it was unscientific and thousands of people from 84 villages had been suffering for two decades
