CPM stands by police on firing: Kodiyeri Balakrishnan
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Thursday took a dig at the CPI saying that his party was ideologically well equipped to counter the Maoists. Mr Kodiyeri’s statement came close on the heels of CPI national executive committee member Benoy Viswam and CPI assistant secretary Prakash Babu questioning the killings of Maoists and calling for ideological and political struggle against the Left extremists. The CPM state secretary accused the right wing forces and ultra Left forces of attempting to destabilise the LDF government.
“When the Maoists fire at police they cannot respond with ideological firing,” he said indirectly mocking at the CPI leaders who are opposed to the killings of the Left extremists. CPI’s Benoy Viswam had pointed out that some comrades had split the united CPI in 1964 eulogising the Maoist path. “These comrades who refused to accept out stand and eulogised the Maoist path, split the Communist party. Later, another section came out alleging that the new party had also deviated from its well stated path giving birth to the Naxalite movement. Those who have read the history of Indian Communist movement will be able to understand these developments in the right perspective,” he said.
CPI assistant secretary Prakash Babu had taken a dig at the Kannur district secretary P. Jayarjanan and power minister M.M. Mani that they had no ideological understanding or patience to grasp Maoist violence. His criticism came in the wake of the two leaders’ tirade against CPI on the issue of killings of Maoists.
