Balussery panchayat president resigns on child abuse allegation

The Yuva Morcha took out a protest march in the town demanding his immediate resignation.

Kozhikode: P.P. Raveendranath, president of Balussery panchayat, resigned after complaints that he had sexually abused a minor. Balussery police registered a case against him on Thursday. The complaint was forwarded to Balussery SI by the Childline officials. In his press release, Mr. Raveendranath termed the incident as a political plot to tarnish his image. Political opponents used the son of an RSS worker for this, he alleged.

“I’ll take up this issue legally. However, it is not ethical to continue as president while a probe is on,” he said. He may submit his formal resignation today.
It was a few days ago that a schoolboy approached the Childline authorities alleging abuse, which his parents later withdrew. However, after one of the news channels aired the report, they came out and stood by the earlier accusations.

They accused him of sexually exploiting the child while attending his tuition classes. After the Childline officials had forwarded the complaint to sub-inspector Sijith V., the police registered the statements of the victim. However, they did not reveal when the abuse took place. The Yuva Morcha took out a protest march in the town demanding his immediate resignation.
