Caste census will help better lot of oppressed classes: Speaker Tammineni

Visakhapatnam: Assembly Speaker Tammineni Sitaram has said the caste census would be of help to the backward communities and other oppressed classes in Andhra Pradesh.

Sitaram was addressing a public meeting in connection with the Samajika Sadhikara Bus Yatra held in Bodham village under Rajam mandal in Srikakulam district on Thursday.

He said a key decision taken in the state cabinet meeting was on caste census. This would augur well for the BCs who were neglected under the TD rule.”

Stating that the TD neglected the health and education sectors during its rule, the Speaker said, adding the YSRC government brought in revolutionary changes in these sectors. “All the welfare schemes were implemented in a most transparent manner and the schemes enhanced the quality of life among the poorer sections of the society.”

“This also increased the purchasing power of the backward classes and as a result there was a spike in the GDP,’’ he claimed.

Sitaram said the increasing number of IT companies opening offices in Visakhapatnam also contributed to the rise in the per capita income of the people.

Deputy CM Budi Mutyala Naidu emphasized the chief minister’s commitment to improving the well-being of the underprivileged. He mentioned several schemes introduced by Jagan Mohan Reddy, including pensions, Vidya Devena, Aasara, Aarogya Suraksha and Nadu-Nedu, aimed at benefiting the BC, SC, ST, and Minority communities.

MLA Kambala Jogulu said the CM has allocated '1,970 crore for the development of the Rajam constituency, prioritizing beneficiaries from all sections regardless of their caste and religion.

Vizianagaram MP Bellana Chandrasekhar said BCs should strive to make Jagan Mohan Reddy chief minister for a second term.

Kurupam MLA and former deputy chief minister Pushpa Srivani said the bus yatra was BCs’ Jaitra Yatra.
