Chennai: The Crime Branch-CID on Wednesday took over investigation of the cheating in Union Public Service Examination by an IPS trainee two weeks ago.

City police had arrested the 29-year-old officer trainee, Safeer Karim, after he was caught redhanded while indulging in malpractice at an exam centre in Egmore on October 30.

Tamil Nadu Director General of Police T. K. Rajendran issued orders on Wednesday for the probe . Police sources said that the city police did not seek custody of Safeer Karim for further investigations as they were informed of the developments.

The IPS trainee, who has since been suspended, was caught communicating through a bluetooth headset at the exam hall in Presidency Girls Higher Secondary School in Egmore.

He was supposedly receiving inputs from his wife, Joicy Joy and his friend, Ram Babu based in Hyderabad.
